Description
The Innova DX Sonic is a very unique disc in the Innova disc golf putt & approach lineup. It's technically a putter but it's going to be much more useful as an approach disc that handles very creative flight paths. This disc has been around since 2007 and has been a hit ever since. The Sonic is useful for players of all skill levels and is a great choice from 5 to 150 feet.
The flight path of the Sonic depends on how you throw it. As an understable disc it has a tendency to turn over even at slower speeds. When thrown slowly and with high spin rate it can be a straight flyer. Why people bag the Sonic is that it can hold the slow hyzer or can hyzer flip. This disc is a favorite of Garrett Gurthie who brought it back to prominence a couple years ago. You can sling the Sonic through trees and put it on very unusual lines. For example you can start it on a hyzer and have it flip up and turn over, very few discs can do that and slowly land around the basket. It's a backhand only disc, forehand or sidearm players will struggle with the deep rim. The Sonic has a learning curve, but players who love it will find a utility disc that can get them out of some of the tightest spots. Players often compare this disc to an ultimate frisbee in flight path.
DX plastic from Innova is their baseline plastic. It's great for putters because those nicks and dings you get on the edge give you a little more grip. DX comes in many weight and color choices. It's a great choice for the Sonic because you want something you can grip and really depress your thumb into. It will beat in slowly because you're throwing the Sonic with touch and not a lot of power.
The DX Sonic is a great utility disc to get you around obstacles and to have high glide and no fade to the flight. It's a great choice for sneaking through gaps and all your slow shot needs. Grab one of these today and see why people love throwing them.
