Where To Eat & What To Do When You Visit Sabattus Disc Golf

Summer is here and Sabattus Disc Golf has plenty of visitors from all over the USA and some folks fly around the world to play here. This week’s blog is a little less disc golf, and a little more what else you can do when you’re not disc golfing.
I routinely get asked where to eat from folks who are visiting from Portland to… the other Portland. I asked my coworkers for some recommendations about where we like to eat.

Nearby activities:

Disc Golf Courses that I love within 30 min of us: Devil’s Grove (5 min), Pineland Farms (25 min, go for lunch, and disc golf!), Bittersweet Ridge (25 min).
Popham Beach in Phippsburg: One of the biggest and best beaches in Maine.
Wolfe Neck Farms in Freeport: Great coastal trails, camping, and near downtown Freeport.
LL Bean: If you’re outdoorsy at all, you have to go. Some stores are open 24/7 and they have a great concert series, and movie nights in the summer. Get your Maine pic with the iconic boot.

Places to eat nearby towards Lewiston:

The Settlement: Very close, sandwiches and hot food. Chris always recommends The Settlement to folks.

Rusty’s Lantern: Angie’s favorite! A great place for giant sandwiches and premade food.

Fastbreaks: Casual sports bar, excellent atmosphere, great food, Amber’s favorite!

Fielder's Choice Ice Cream: A great frozen treat on a hot summer day. Cash only! Cecile’s favorite place and she recommends the Salted Brownie Caramel.

South of the Border: Classic Mexican restaurant food at affordable prices. Danielle’s favorite place to get some food.

Places to eat nearby towards Freeport:

Three Robbers Pub: Fantastic pub food, crispy fries, great drinks, it’s Streeter's favorite place to get a bite to eat.

The Gelato Fiasco: Best Gelato in Maine, worth your time to visit. It was one of Oprah’s favorite things, get the Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp, but be sure to try a few of them!

Franks: Arthur’s pick for best eating around here. Classic American pub fare, good burgers, and nice Italian suppers.

Wild Oats Bakery and Café: Cafeteria style, with homemade bread, soup, sandwiches, and desserts. There’s something for everyone. Located on the old Navy base in Brunswick.

Mast Landing: Great brewery in Freeport, SDG carries lots of their beers here in our cooler. They also work with Simon Lizotte for his signature releases.

Maine’s National Park
Many folks who visit SDG are also seeing Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor.

I spend plenty of time up there seeing my girlfriend most weekends and we’d love to recommend some places to go and things to do when you’re there.

Hikes I like to go on:

Bowl Path on Mount Champlain: It’s a solid hike that will take you way up to look out over the ocean. It’s where those Bowl pictures are from. It’s definitely a most of the day kind of a hike. I promise, it’s worth it.

Ocean Path: A very easy walking trail that takes you along the water's edge. Great for dog owners, joggers, folks who want to see Thunder Hole will be happy, and it’s not going to take you 4 hours to complete. There’s lots of walking paths and it’s mostly flat for walking. Here’s one of my favorite pictures from my first trip up there in the winter. You can’t find a bad view if you wanted to.

Sunrise at Cadillac: It’s where the sun hits the East coast first, so it’s where you can experience light before anyone else in the US. Check the weather first, the morning I went we were greeted with the fog.

But I’m just a tourist up there. Sometimes it’s best to ask the experts.

Breweries and Eateries in Bar Harbor:

Fogtown Brewing
Atlantic Brewing
Lompoc Cafe

The food is good everywhere, it’s so competitive that you’re going to have a good time eating no matter what. My only gripe with the Bar Harbor establishments is that burgers come with chips and you have to upgrade to fries. Just charge me the extra 2 dollars, and yes I’ll die on this hill.

Rosalies is my number 1 recommendation for food. It’s a solid pizza joint, and after a long day on the beach, hiking, or shopping, it’s a really good meal.

Favorite beach

Sand Beach: It’s a classic from the movie “The Cider House Rules”. It’s probably the most famous in Bar Harbor and their best. It’s got the sand, the rocky steps leading to it, and during the winter a cute dog who stopped me from taking pictures because she was busy trying to eat all of the seaweed. It’s picturesque, great for swimming, and while it is usually crowded, more people are hiking than on the beach.
