I know the last several weeks have been difficult for everyone. Some people are working, others aren’t. Wherever you are reading this, I hope you are safe and well stocked up. I also hope you’re working on your putts. What unites all of us reading this is our love and passion for the sport of disc golf. We don’t know when it will be safe to travel again, but I know that one thing I love is planning for future vacations. It gets me through the long days, so I’m going to pitch New England to you folks that haven’t come here yet to play.
When I’m going on vacation anywhere one of the first things I do is hop on the PDGA Course Directory to see how close I am to a course. I guess it’s a habit, when I’m going somewhere, I want to know how far away I am from a place to throw discs.. And I also explain to whoever I’m with that yes, I will be taking a 1 hour detour to play disc golf at a new course, and yes I’m bringing my whole bag. A few years back my brother, dad, and I all managed to hit up a couple of courses in Virginia while on vacation, we loved the courses.
Today I’m going to tell you about the best US corner of disc golf. Up here in the Northeast you already know about 2 of the courses from the Disc Golf Pro Tour. Maple Hill and Smuggler’s Notch are great courses in Massachusetts and Vermont. Sabattus Disc Golf is just under 3 hours North of Maple Hill, and 4 hours East of Smugglers Notch. We hosted the 2016 USWDGC here, hosted a Champs Vs Chumps with Simon and Paige in 2019, and have 3 of our 4 courses ranked in the top 100 in the world, plus we’ve got an impressive two level Pro Shop.
New England has 11 of the top 100 courses in the world as rated by UDisc! There are 9,066 courses listed as of today and we’re fortunate enough to have some of the best in our own backyard. Playing at any of these courses is playing at the top 1% of all rated courses in the world.
2) Maple Hill (Massachusetts)
8) Brewster Ridge (Vermont)
20) Fox Run (Vermont)
23) Hawk (Sabattus)
35) Falcon (Sabattus)
51) Black Bear (Maine)
62) Eagle (Sabattus)
66) Top O’ The Hill (New Hampshire)
68) Quarry Run (Maine)
74) Grizzly (Maine)
77) The Patriot (Maine)
I still feel like New England courses are the best kept secret in disc golf, so I’m spilling the beans (baked beans because you know, New England). There’s a lot of great disc golf up in this corner of the USA and you should come out and try it if you get the chance. Once you get a round or three in at Sabattus Disc Golf you’re still surrounded by a lot of other courses in all directions as well. After all, UDisc ranked this region as the number one disc golf city in the US for good reason, boasting “about 40 eighteen hole courses within a 40-mile radius“.
If you’re a PDGA member you know that you can get some sweet discounts on lodging and car rentals, so there’s no reason not to come up and visit! If you’re looking for a place to spend a fall or summer vacation, I can’t recommend anywhere better to play than some of the best disc golf in the world. You’ll be shocked at all the incredible courses and I always love hearing from visitors from other states and countries. I hope to see you, and everyone else again, soon.
May your discs miss all the trees,
Andrew Streeter

Soooo Covid. I live in upstate NY and have a week’s worth of vacation that expires in July; I would love to travel back to Sabattus. But as I understand the current travel restrictions from your governor, I would have to quarantine myself for two weeks before doing anything in Maine. Are there any particular loopholes you are aware of to circumvent this?
